What is Breast Cancer?
Breast cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. It occurs when abnormal cells in the breast grow and divide uncontrollably, forming a tumor. This tumor can invade nearby tissues and spread to other parts of the body.
There are different types of breast cancer, but the most common type is invasive ductal carcinoma, which starts in the milk ducts and then spreads to the surrounding breast tissue. Other types include invasive lobular carcinoma, which starts in the milk-producing glands, and less common types like inflammatory breast cancer and Paget’s disease of the breast.
While breast cancer is more commonly associated with women, it can also affect men. However, it is much rarer in men, accounting for less than 1% of all breast cancer cases.
